The much anticipated Digicel Cup Round 9 game between Kimbe Cutters and Bintangor Goroka Lahanis has been relocated to Lae due to air travel issues. PNG National Rugby League Competition (NRLC) Manager Stanley Hondina in a statement said due to the rescheduling of flights attributed to the restrictions forced on by the pandemic, the Goroka to Hoskins sector has not been possible resulting in the relocation of this game. “We assumed that the Goroka to Hoskins sector had been reviewed however when making reservations for the Lahanis team, there were no convenient flights available to make it viable,” Hondina said. “West New Britain fans and supporters are understandably disappointed and I feel for them, but this is beyond our control.” He said with two rounds remaining after this weekend, we will ensure a game will be played in Kimbe before the finals series. “I thank the Kimbe Cutters franchise for their co-operation and support,” Hondina said. “We will get a game in Kimbe in the next two weeks.” Hondina acknowledged the hard work and support, valued sponsors, staff and volunteers have put into preparing for the game at Humphreys Oval in Kimbe. “The travel issue is beyond our control,” Hondina said. “Thank you all for your understanding. “We really appreciate and value your continued support.” He said this game will be played in Lae this Saturday September 5, 2020 and the usual ticket price of K20 per person (Children under 3 are Free) will apply. “Gates at the Lae Rugby League ground open at 12 noon with Kick off at 2.00pm on Saturday,” Hondina said. He said Sunday September 6, 2020 double header in Lae – Wamp Nga Mt Hagen Eagles vs EPG Enga Mioks and Lae Snax Tigers against PRK Mendi Muruks – will go ahead as scheduled with 1st game kicking off at 1.00pm.
